Destiny: The Taken King / Koenig der Bessessen

by Andreas Schaefer

Even in the darkest time of my frustrations with Destiny, Skolas and the exclusive deals I knew that I would buy TTK. There is no other game that tickle my fancies, not Halo 5, not Quantum Breaks, not Gears of War (Remake), nothing. But I waited until August to actually buy my copies.

Now that the Hype Machine is gearing up here a my thoughts of an early adopter.Story, story and did I say story is what I hear over and over again but then didn’t we hear that in the past? Yes, we did hear that on every expansion. I am optimistic that TTK is roughly around the volume of the original release but then it takes me less than a day to go through the missions with a new character and Bungie said that the missions will be around 6 to 8 hours of game play, not a lot for a game but then Destiny has proven that it has a lot of replay value that other games don’t have.

For example I have the Halo Collector’s Edition but did not play much. It looks better but that’s about it. The really interesting games like ODST or Reach are not included and that sucks big time. Many games I bought in the past year I went through the campaign and then returned back to Destiny.

Even though Skolas is a beast and it is very frustrating to attempt the fight is difficult, demanding and exhilarating. The last time I had something like that was trying to do LASO (Legendary, All Skulls On) with Reach. Of course, Halo 4 killed that with having no recording of a game (theater).

Now with TTK Bungie finally put a stop to old weapons (legendary) as they finally phase them out and replace with new once so that we don’t have to use the same old guns (Fatebringer, Vision of Confluence, Black Hammer and GHorn). Well, the GHorn will stick around but the rest will reach the end of life soon, RIP.

But what I am really looking forward is going back to a 6 man raid. Finally after the interlude with Prison of Elders we are back to a Raid, hooray. Many of my compadres from Vault of Glass and Crota’s End era stopped playing Destiny but I found new friends and I will fight alongside them and leave the past behind. Even though our Clan name was ‘Try Hard Die Hards’ many did not try hard by any means and so its time to move on.

With all my worries, frustrations and lack of optimism I am still looking forward to TTK. Maybe one day Bungie is able to make old content relevant (VOG, CE, PoE) again after a new Expansion and even if not there is still a lot to play and fight for.

Keep your eyes up Guardian – Andy
